Fruit Season is Back

Plenty of fruits around.

More so around our house.

And then some more.

Ciku has always been abundant year round.

Now, comes the rambutans

Then, durian trees at our kebun also bear plenty of fruits this year.

Tokki is about to complete his round distributing the durians to our neighbour but only make them to come back for more. ... To buy em, that is...

Tokki had to turn them down.. not until all the 40 houses that surrounds us get their shares.

Now, they come and ask to buy in the 10's 20's, 30's, 40's , 50's or 60's ringgit that is....

Tokki let them have 4 for 10 and another one for free.. Tokki don't ave a heart to sell em....

No wonder, so many come back to buy more durians.......

Kite Flying

View all 35 photos...
These are photos captured on Saturday afternoon last week.

After attended a wedding reception, I had to go to a bank for check deposit and later we ended up at the Pantai Batu Buruk.

It was windy all right, thus a perfect time for kite flying.

We said no to Jr so many times before when he wanted a kite. Just look at his facial expression to tell how much pleasure he gets from another first experience in his life...

He hold on to the rope and wouldn't let go... The wind was so strong that Jr had to walk forward following the tug of the rope...

We told him to sit down and hold tight to his kite...

When he had enough, he said. "Let's go home!" and he just let go of the kite... Thus we ended up chasing after the kite. Luckily, it got stuck at the coconut tree in between the cars parked by the beach with the nylon rope all tangled up.

and the Mommy and Son

Kite flying is entertaining. But why when we got fed up with someone we often ask him to go and fly kite Thu 17-Jul-2008 13:06

Missed it

I totally forgotten about THE Debate.

I had made a mental note to watch it before leaving the office but when I got home, Jr was there opening the gate for me.

He then proceeded to open the door and got inside.

So, I decided to take him out for a ride.

A few seconds passed, my nose detected a whiff of skunk ... when asked if he pooped, he answered no. Thinking it probably just him passing wind, I continue driving but the smell stays... He still was adamant saying no when asked... So I stopped by the road side to check... He went to the back seat and refused to let me take a look into his diaper...

Guess what! yessiree!!! He did it!

We turned around and Jr had his shower right outside the house by the hose!

After solatul maghrib, he asked for milk. I discovered that there is no milk left! So we went out to the market for milk and diaper.

Then, we went to the airport to watch airplane taking-off.

Then we headed to the beach.

Then, we went home.

After his milk, we went to bed.

When I woke up, then only I remembered ...

At the office, I began asking those who did watched.

The response was, it was a waste of time. For 50 minutes, they were on the same points. All agreed that Shabeery took too much punch on Anwar's personal. If a winner to be declared, they said it wold be Anwar. Shabery is no match to Anwar. At least, they agree that the debate shed lights on IPP and the reason why the people have to pay high tariff to TNB. IPP deal is stupid, one said.

I'm off to fly kite again!

Latest Game in Town

Current political scenarios:

DAP's voice is loud and clear against malay supremacy and many of those modern malay who have been living in the urban areas are persuaded with their line of rhetorics, with PAS members lending them both hands for support... All of them are up to their ankle in the mud forthe mudslinging competition that has just begun... The rakyat are watching and getting confused by the maneuvers and the choreographers are laughing on the sideline. Strange but true, the first mud hit one of them, but as more muds being thrown, those that got hit are only top muslim malay leaders... by magic somehow, the non muslim leaders don't get hit in the game.

Read this article on nst today...

My thoughts is that the Muslim malay supremacy will remain as long as they stay united.

It;s too bad that the malays are divided along the political lines.

After reading the interview with ezam yesterday, I'm more convinced that DSAI main objective is to become PM. Whatever happens to the country in the process of paving the road for him to become the PM is no concern of his.

I grin when I read in harakah that hadi said it's ok to talk to UMNO. I hope it can be done.

UMNO adalah tunjang BN. PAS adalah serpihan UMNO, PKR juga adalah ranting UMNO. BN tidak akan berkecai kalau orang Melayu Islam bersatu.

MIC & MCA lost their grassroot support during PRU12. Many UMNO supporters voted for the opposition, abstained or spoiled their votes because of LOVE-HATE complex... Love for UMNO and BN but hate some of the top leaders being seeing as arrogant and too proud of themselves.

STOP.

Got to go home and enjoy kite flying with Jr on the beach before it gets too dark...

OPINION: Does a crisis exist among the Malays?
SHERIDAN MAHAVERA

Tan Sri Ismail Hussin (left) wants to put a stop to Malay-bashing; Dr Syed Husin Ali says Umno lost out in the polls, not the Malays
Tan Sri Ismail Hussin (left) wants to put a stop to Malay-bashing; Dr Syed Husin Ali says Umno lost out in the polls, not the Malays

More than four months since the March 8 general election, some say the Malay community is in its worst-ever crisis. Others disagree. SHERIDAN MAHAVERA looks beyond the histrionics to discern the crux of the matter
IN the local English dailies, much of the doomsday talk is on the environment and the oil-based economy, but in the Malay dailies, it's saved for the Malay community.

Ribut (stormy), berpecah (disunited) and gadai negeri (selling out the country) are some of the terms bandied about in describing what has been called the worst crisis in the Malay community since Independence.

Proponents of this belief have organised themselves into the Majlis Muafakat Melayu Malaysia (Malaysian Malay Solidarity Council -- 4M). They warn that unless something immediate and drastic is done, "Melayu akan menjadi musafir di negeri sendiri" (the Malays will be dispossessed in their own land).

The "crisis", they argue, came about from the spectacular losses suffered by Barisan Nasional, and in particular Umno, in the 12th general election.
What was especially traumatising for the Malay associations and groups that make up 4M is the loss of the Malay heartland states of Kedah and Perak, and to a certain extent Selangor.

The groups believe that Malaysia's political landscape post-March 8 will see the demise of the Malays' special position and privileges, and the community's dominance in charting the nation's future.

The ideology of ketuanan Melayu (Malay dominance) and kedaulatan Melayu (Malay sovereignty), warns 4M, will "hilang di dunia" (fade from the world).

In early May, 200 Malay non-governmental organisations, spearheaded by the Federation of National Writers Association (Gapena), congregated in Johor Baru for three days of talks on how to tackle the "crisis". The result was 4M, which sees itself as a non-partisan body to ensure Malays remain "first among equals" among Malaysian communities, no matter what party is in power.

The council is touted as the collective expression of the desires and concerns of the Malay intelligentsia: academics, poets, entrepreneurs and opinion-makers.

The congress passed a set of resolutions to the Sultan of Johor, including demands that Malays and Malay customs remain dominant in the nation's politics, economy and culture.

Gapena chairman Tan Sri Ismail Hussin stressed that these demands did not mean the other communities would be sidelined or oppressed.

"We want to put a stop to all this Malay-bashing, the ideology of a 'Malaysian Malaysia' and all this racialist talk," he said.

Though Ismail emphasised that the congress neither supported nor was supported by any political party, its detractors denounce it as a proxy of Umno. This similarity of tenor and message between supporters of the congress and Umno led critics to question whether or not such a crisis really exists among the Malays.

Malay intellectuals not affiliated with 4M argue that Malay political representation was untouched by the March 8 "tsunami".

In the 2004 elections, when the Barisan Nasional had had its best showing, 120 parliamentary seats had gone to Malay MPs. After the last election, observes Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia political scientist Prof Dr Mohammad Agus Yusoff, there are now 121.

The seats Umno lost went to other Malays, whether from Pas or Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR). Malay MPs even took over seats once held by non-Malays, notes Mohammad Agus, such as Kuantan, Kota Raja and Teluk Kemang.

Prof Dr Shad Saleem Faruqi contends that concerns for the loss of kedaulatan Melayu and the special position of the Malays as enshrined in Article 153 of the Constitution are also unfounded. Writing in the Berita Harian on March 14, the constitutional law expert said the only way Article 153 could be amended would be by a two-thirds vote in the Dewan Rakyat and the approval of the Rulers' Council.

"In the Constitution," Shad wrote, "the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is the protector of the special position of the Malays. Whatever the results of a general election, this special position will not be affected."

Kedaulatan Melayu, in short, is held not by any political party but the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the nine Malay rulers.

"When it comes to choosing the prime minister," says Mohammad Agus, "the king has the power to choose whom he views can command the confidence of the Dewan Rakyat."

The sultans also have this prerogative over their states, as seen in Perak when Pas' Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin was chosen as menteri besar despite his party holding the fewest seats in the Pakatan Rakyat state government.

Mohammad Nizar's appointment by the Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah, was initially opposed by DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang, who later retracted his stand and apologised to the Perak palace.

So, if kedaulatan Melayu and the Malays' special position will remain regardless of the party in power, should the community worry? Gapena's Ismail thinks so, but says the crisis is more "psychological".

"It is because there is more talk about the special privileges, and there may come a time where even though they are in the Constitution, there may be people who want to ram into them."

Ismail doubts that non-Umno Malay MPs have the interests of the community at heart, saying they were treating Malay privileges as a political commodity.

Others attribute such uneasiness to Umno's hold on the psyche of Malays as the only protector of their interests. At roughly three million members, Umno is the largest party in the BN, where most component parties are race-based and whose philosophies revolve around guarding the interests of their own communities.

PKR deputy chief and former Universiti Malaya sociology professor Dr Syed Husin Ali calls this a convenient smokescreen for Umno.

"They have mistakenly associated the welfare of the Malays with Umno, and that's why there is all this talk about a crisis. So if Umno does not do well in the elections, they interpret this as the Malays being threatened.

"It was not the Malays that lost out (in the election), it was Umno."

4M's claim that it represents Malays is also undermined by the results of the last general election, when tens of thousands helped elect 40 Malay MPs from non-Umno parties.

Says Syed Husin: "Malays are actually asking, what has Umno really done for them despite being in power for the past 50 years? The largest segment of the poor are still the Malays."

MohammadAgus says the general election results reflect a maturity in the Malay electorate. At heart is a question of identity, he says: "Whether the Malays will subscribe to a politics of enthnocentric dominance or something more inclusive.

"The diversity among Malay politicians now, with their different ideologies and beliefs, can only be a good thing as they compete with each other for the vote of the community. The best Malay politician will emerge."

hanya orang bukan melayu saja ke boleh nampak apa yang berlaku pada orang melayu?

A BBQ was organised to welcome new students to FBK.

Semester 5 students who have been on campus attending the workshop on micro-teaching and began their ROS and teaching practicum were also invited.

The event was an informal way to introduce the staff and students together.

It just happened that the day after was the birthday of the dean. A surprised birthday celebration was planned for her.

Jr came along since I don't have a heart to leave him with Tok Ibu afterall she already had to deal with him all day long.

When he heard the happy birthday song being sung, he rushed to the tent looking for the cake...

When he didn't see the cake he lookep up at me and shrugged his shoulders and said " what? momma! No cake!"

When the cake was brought in, he made a dash to grab the icing that I had to grab him and hold him close. He did manage to stick his finger into the cake....

At last, he helped Madam Azizah to blow the candles and got the first slice of the cake...

By the time we drove home, he was so tired that he went to sleep right away after changing into his pyjama

Where: Pecah Rotan to Lingai
When: July 3, 2008
Day: Thursday
Time: 8:30 - 10:30 a.m.
Organizer : FBK

After a three day university programmes, the new intakes spent the last two days with their respective faculty.

An outing was planned as a part of the activity at the faculty.

After an aerobic exercise during the evening and a BBQ the night before, about 50 new students and 18 staff went for a jungle tracking in the Hulu Batu Rakit area.

We left in 2 buses after breakfast at the faculty.

We were greeted with a really strong aroma of cow 's dung once we got off the bus. We were immediately reminded that the smell of rubber scraps is awaiting us on the hill top and the the smell is even worst.

Once we got off the bus, we began climbing about 15 degree slope into fruit orchard. I saw durians dangling on the tree branches and recognised the rambutan trees.

Before the road took us down hill, we turn left and immediately began climbing a 50 degree slope. Before I could reach the flat area, my calf almost experience a muscle crammed but alhamdulillah, it was only mild. I continued. Thanks God that the path wasn't much of a steep slope after that.

We stumbled across a couple of villagers harvesting petai from the jungle.

After going up and down a few small hill, we came across another steep hillside. Even though I had brought some snacks, juice and a bottle of mineral water along, I had any sip or munch. Going up that hill only I found out how thirsty I really was when I felt my throat went dry as I was panting for fresh air. I didn't dare stop half way fearing that my leg would gave way I began gasping for air and made weird noise as though I was about to throw up but it was the air from my tummy that trying to get out

Managing to conquer that top, only then I scrambled looking for the juice in the sack. That drink that I took tasted so heavenly as I have never had that drink before!!! Allahu Akbar! My thirst was gone when I finished that pack of juice. Alhamdulillah! All praise be to God!

Just when I thought there is no more steep hills to climb, more seemed to appear. Each subsequent hill slopes that I had to climb seemed to become steeper and steeper. My calf began to give me problems and as I descended down the hill slope my knees began to knuckle... ouch!

I slowed down and made more stops for photo shot. I took photos of flowers, fruits and leaves that I even shot rubber tapper that was out still tapping rubber.

That was until Sham, who had the first aid box with him passed by. I asked for deep heat or sport rub or any kind of ointment to help relieve my muscle pain. Luckily, he had some kind of ointment and I used it to all over my legs. Alhamdulillah, each step that I took after that was more manageable. The pain became less and I could picked-up the pace going down hill.

Finally, it was over.

I was on fever that night and for the next three days I had to drag a pair of what felt like an elephant's leg around. Ouch!

I concluded that never again would I go for a jungle tracking. What we did wasn't a jungle tracking the way a real jungle tracking supposed to be where each one is assigned a number and none can bypass the person ahead of him and wait for one another after each difficult climb. Our jungle tracking turned up to be some sort of "Amazing Race" where the first group in front would run as fast as they could when they see the other group approaching them and the second group was just trying to catch up. Some members from the third group left their group members to catch up and I was the last person to get back onto the bus for a ride home....

last shot before boarded the bus....

What: Problem Based Learning Course
When: July 5-6, 2008
Where: KH01 (Block KHADIJAH) UDM , kampus KUSZA
Organizer: Pusat Pembangunan Akademik dan Kemahiran Insaniah (PPAKI) UDM
Facilitator: Prof Madya Dr. Berhanuddin (UTHM)

Before I attended this course, PBL was a buzz word. When attending a seminar a couple of years back at Glenmarie, I sat through a presentation by a KUIM lecturer who reported on her experience using PBL in the classroom. It had had a good impression on me but I still wasn't clear on PBL.

Alhamdulillah, after a 2 day course, now I feel like I can implement probably a small scale PBL in my classroom learning.

I plan to implement my first PBL today.

The photos below are captured during the 2 day course.

Opening Ceremony was officiated by TNCA Prof FND

Trigger: Lack of users at Al-Mukhtar Library
Students complain about the lack of necessary books or the book they need cannot be located on the shelves.

NOTE: I did not introduce FILA to the student. They were divided into 6 groups and were sent to the library on different task. Some of the students have never been to the library. Some were exposed to the idea during one of the lecture slot during Minggu Mesra Siswa.

Group 1: Conduct a survey among library users as to frequency of use and purpose. Thay were also suppose to ask some background questions as what semester or what particular program of study

Group 2: Conduct an interview and find out more facts on the Multimedia Unit of the library.

Group 3: Conduct an interview and find facts about the Circulation Unit

Group 4: Interview Book Loan Unit and find facts about the volume, fine etc

Group 5: Investigate the ease of retrieval of books. Each were suppose to search for 2 book on OPAC, get the call number and proceed to locate the books on the shelves.

Group 6: To observe their classmate carrying out the task and report on the primary language use during the task and secondly to approach their classmate individually and initiate a conversation or ask questions in English then note if their classmate reply back in English language or not.

Want to know the result???

Wait till next Tuesday when they present their finding

Most of our old photo collection has gone bad due to moisture and heat.

We managed to scan some from old photo albums but the rest are just cannot be salvaged anymore.

Here are some old photo of aaya. She will turn sweet 16 in November this year.

In the wake of the latest scandals or mud slinging where confusion is the order of the day. I cannot help but look within and rely on my own gut feelings or insight and just hold on to what I could see. After all, I would be a hypocrite If I go against own gut feeling.

My colleagues are divided when it comes to allegations against Najib and Rose. But all agree that they don't believe that DSAI is guilty as charged.

Today's news piece in the star on Dr. M, sink deep into my heart. When that happened, I normally take it as there is some sense of truth to the matter. Probably because, I have all along believe that it has been orchestrated by some 'entity' outside the goverment or BN or UMNO but this entity has made a good use of planting people in all the organizations, be it government or non-government, political parties or NGOs... DSAI and RPK are just pawns. Their soldiers are still plenty scattered on the ground waiting for orders from above.

May ALL MUSLIMS be guided and united in good or times of trials. Unite among Muslims is a must. If Muslims are united, then the non-Muslims will bow down and agree to live in peace. When MUSLIMS in Malaysia are disbanded by political conviction, the enemy dare to show their true face create havoc.

WHY CAN'T MUSLIMS, be it UMNO, PAS, or PKR be UNITED?

Mahathir: There’s a concerted campaign against Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is convinced that there is a concerted campaign against Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and that “somebody is behind it” besides Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The former prime minister said he could not understand why the Deputy Prime Minister was coming under constant attack, adding that he believed the allegations against Najib were all hearsay.

“There is a concerted campaign against Najib. I don’t know why. Not just by Anwar but also by this other chap (Malaysia Today editor) Raja Petra (Kamaruddin) and also a number of others.

“Somebody is working behind this, maybe to undermine Najib’s possibility of challenging the Prime Minister,” he said after calling on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is here to attend the 6th Developing Eight Nations Summit.

Dr Mahathir said there was no proof to the allegations against Najib.

“You can’t just say that I heard somebody did this. This is not proof,” he said.

Dr Mahathir said he could not understand why his former deputy (Anwar) was “going after Najib” when it was not the latter who reported on Anwar’s behaviour.

“I think he has always been attacking Datuk Najib. Maybe he thinks that Najib is standing in his way of becoming the Deputy Prime Minister or even the Prime Minister,” he said, adding that Anwar could never join Umno again as the party would not accept him.
